ごあいさつ　――長沢アートパーク　２００８レポート――

交流人口の拡大を目指して

過疎化が進む長沢の地に、京都や東京から日本の伝統的な水彩多色摺り木版画の指導者を招き、世界の中堅で活躍しているアーティストや大学の版画指導者たちに、その技法を教えるプログラムを始め、幾多の試練を乗り越え今年で１３回目の事業を終えることができました。こつこつと続けてきた事業は、30カ国、100名を越すアーティストや版画指導者たちを送り出しました。今では、卒業生たちは、世界各地で活躍し、教育の現場にあっては後進の木版画指導に当たり、美術館や画廊にあっては、水彩絵具独特の版画作品を展示し、多くの人々から賞賛を得てきました。

長沢アートパーク事業は、この13年間の実績を通して、様々な文化資産を蓄積してきました。例えば、アーティストたちが寄贈した500点以上に及ぶ版画作品のコレクション。多国籍のアーティストたちによる水彩多色摺り木版画のコレクションとしては世界一と自負しています。また、アーティスト・指導者・地元を相互に繋ぐネットワーク、更には、事業を通して得た世界中の美術大学や文化機関との信頼関係などです。これら有形、無形のさまざまな資産の有効活用について、今、関係者の間では活発な議論がなされています。

さて、これから淡路市におきましては、少子高齢過疎化がますます進み、定住人口の減少の波が足音をたてて忍び寄っています。幸いにも淡路市を含め淡路島全域が観光立国推進基本法により「観光圏」に指定され、国を挙げて観光旅客の来訪や滞在の促進を目指しております。そのような中、複雑な国際社会にあって、大人たちが自分たちの文化に誇りを持ち、世界にその文化の享受者や理解者を広げ、感動を共有することができれば、次世代のこどもたちも、また、その文化を受け継ぎ、想像力の質を高め、国際性を身につけることができると確信します。そのためにも淡路の窓を世界に開き続け、風通しを良くし、より活発な交流の輪が広がることを期待しています。

その窓こそが長沢アートパーク事業で、今後とも、活動を期待してご挨拶とします。

Expanding the Nagasawa Art Park program

Nagasawa Art Park project(herein indicated as NAP)has been inviting carving and printing instructors from Tokyo and Kyoto and providing a Japanese water color printmaking program for international contemporary artists and print teachers, it successfully closed the 12th program in 2008.
NAP organises the program for a small number of artists, between 4-8 artists every year.
This endeavour has invited about 100 artists from 30 countries over the past 12 years.
The graduates further develop their abilities, working in the front line of water color print expression, and teach these skills at schools and show prints at museums and galleries in their own countries.


NAP project has now archived a cultural heritage. For example, the printed artworks collection donated by the artists numbers more than 500. I imagine that this is arguably very unique and perhaps it's one of the best water color woodblock print collections in the world. Also, the network between artists, teachers, and local residents has garnered a confident and memorable relationship. This relationship expands to include art universities and cultural organizations all over the world. NAP Committee and people of Awaji City are now actively discussing the effective application of these various materials, and intangible resources.


Looking to the future, Awaji City is changing rapidly, an aged society with a continuous declining birth rate. The inhabitant's issues are also creeping up on us here. Fortunately, all of Awaji island including our city was selected and designated by the Japan Tourism Agency, as an inbound tourism zone in 2008. Our aims, the City revitalization projects, are to encourage more visitors to the city, encouraging cultural tourism, thus welcoming outside investment.


In regards to the NAP program, if adults proud of their own traditional culture, spread that understanding to the world, sharing inspirations with others. I am sure that the children of the next generation can also inherit that culture and raise its profile and quality and leran it's international nature.
. For that, we need to open the window of Awaji to the world, and keep it wide open, spreading the community circle further.
This window is the NAP project and I expect it will be more active from now on.

東京雑感

　平和とは、個人的には、穏やかで変わりの無い事であり、一般的には、戦争が無くて世が安易である事とすれば、バラク・オバマアメリカ大統領のチェンジとは何であったのか？　チェンジとは言うまでもなく、変革。世界のリーダーの一人であるべきアメリカ大統領候補の「チェンジ」に、私は、ある違和感を感じていました。

多くの報道等に接しながら、何をチェンジするのかが伺われなかったからです。

チェンジという心地よい言葉の響きだけが残っています。

アメリカは果たして本気で、世界平和を願っているのか？

アメリカンカウボーイが、正義の使者として、ネーテイブ・インデアンを蹴散らしていた西部劇の時代から、その底辺に流れているパラダイムは変わっていないのではないのか？コンピューターという玩具を手に入れた現代人が、バーチャルリアリティーの世界として、他国に乗り込む正義の使者として、アメリカ人を認識しているとしたら、その勘違いの闇は深い。

今の日本にも、同じような違和感を感じます。

東京がアメリカであり、田舎が他国。

東京は、田舎の犠牲の下にその利便性と享楽を享受しながら、地球温暖化の元凶になっています。しかし、東京という象徴の意味するものが、日本を代表するものである事は、間違いありません。

そして、田舎が、そのセーフティーネットであるとしたら、我々は、二極化の中で、対話を誰に求めたらいいのか。

東京のタクシー乗り場では、乗車待ちの人が並んで待っています。新神戸駅では、タクシーが利用客を待っています。そして、淡路島に帰ってくると、車も人も疎らです。

だからどうと言う事ではありません。

夫々が、その地域に合った生き方をすれば良い分けです。

東京の強さは、日本の代名詞ですが、反面、都会が田舎によって支えられているという謙虚さを勘違いした時、彼は手酷いしっぺ返しを覚悟しなければならない時に遭遇するでしょう。

過密と喧噪の東京で、力弱い田舎の市長として、孤独を感じながら、懐に隠した小刀の柄を握り締め、東京雑感を胸に刻みました。
